IMPORTANT:
This scheme is a strictly for people experience an unexpected financial shock. Unfortunately, ongoing financial difficulties alone are unlikely to qualify for support.
To be eligible for support, you must:
→ Aged 16 or over
→ In receipt of means tested benefits OR have a total household income of £33,000 or less per year
→ Be experiencing an urgent need caused by an unexpected event, emergency or significant change in circumstances
→ Be able to demonstrate that your household finances are usually managed effectively
→ A permanent Kent resident paying council tax to one of the 12 local authorities covered by Kent County Council (excluding Medway, Bexley and Bromley)
Every application is considered individually, but support may be available where an unexpected event has caused financial hardship, here are some examples
Serious flood, fire or other unexpected household disaster
An accident, physical health emergency or mental health crisis leading to additional costs or financial hardship.
Support for people leaving an abusive relationship and setting up a safe new home.
Money needed for essential day-to-day living costs has been lost or stolen.
Evidence of benefits received &/or
Recent payslips
National Insurance number
Photo ID (if available)
Recent bank statements
This could include
– Quotes or invoices
– Medical evidence
– Police reports
You can apply directly or you can get help with your application from Citizens Advice
All applications are individually assessed by Kent County Council.
– Support is not guaranteed
– Additional evidence may be requested
– Processing times may vary depending on demand
– Priority will be given to the most urgent cases
