Kent Advice Hub

Become an Advice First Aider

Help build resilience across Kent

We are delighted to be opening new volunteering opportunities across North and West Kent as part of our Building Resilience Campaign.

Research clearly illustrates that people with ‘advice needs’ often come from marginalised, isolated and minority groups, tending to look to trusted members of their local community for advice rather than going directly to Citizens Advice.

The aim of this project is to train people who regularly interact with these groups to become Advice First Aiders, equipping  them with the skills necessary to identify those who may be heading towards crisis, listening to their concerns and then helping them to access the Kent Advice Hub to get expert advice from Citizens  Advice using simple referral systems.

We are looking for community groups and individuals

How to get involved

Full training provided

Becoming an Advice First Aider starts with a free, interactive session either training session either  face-to-face or online. The training is designed to be practical, engaging and enjoyable, giving you the confidence to recognise when someone may need support, start a conversation, listen effectively and connect them with the help available through Citizens Advice.

You’ll learn:

  • How to spot the signs that someone may be struggling with issues such as debt, benefits, housing or relationships
  • How to have supportive, non-judgemental conversations
  • When and how to refer someone to Citizens Advice
  • What support Citizens Advice can provide and how our referral process works

Training is completely free. The only requirement is access to a laptop, tablet or smartphone to enable referrals when needed.

Everyone who completes the training will receive:

  • An Advice First Aider lanyard, identifying them as a trusted point of contact within their workplace or community
  • A certificate of completion
  • Ongoing access to support and resources from Citizens Advice

By becoming an Advice First Aider, you’ll play a vital role in helping people get the right support at the right time, preventing problems from escalating into crisis.
